Edible Landscaping
With food traveling in excess of 1,500 miles to reach our dinner table it can be reassuring to walk out the front or back door of our home and see food growing. It is no secret that home grown food tastes better, but what many people don’t realize is that edible landscape plants can also look great. With a beautiful array of foliage, flowers, and fruit there is no reason we can’t have our landscape and eat it too!
For us at Eden on Earth a good part of sustainable and ecological living means producing for our own needs. This means our landscapes besides being beautiful need to also pull their own weight. For example, a garden can also act as a wildlife habitat for hummingbirds and at the same time provide food for its human residents. Edible landscapes can provide fresh seasonal fruit, salad greens, edible flowers, plants for tea, and many different cooking herbs. The garden itself does not need to be high maintenance nor does it need to be linear. In fact we design edible landscapes to be visually stunning and mimic nature.
